Research Fields & Overview
In the area of foundations of education, I have already done some research concerning the issues of the essence, values, aims, vitality of education and professional development of teachers in recent years. I have published The Cultural Character of Pedagogy and Public Pedagogy and some articles. Based on these research, I usually participate some activities in the field of policy consultation and advice.
In the field of philosophy of education, I mainly do some philosophical inquiry into the issues of values education, including the philosophical foundations of values education, sympathy and values education, values education for young generations, socialism core values education, and even values leadership etc. Beijing Education Committee have funded these research for several years and I also published the book philosophy of Education, and submitted some policy suggestions to the Ministry of Education and Beijing Municipal government.
In the field of education reform, I have recently researched some issues on the background, stages, value-orientation, approaches, and sample experiences of education reform, published some papers, presentations and articles. The book Knowledge Transformation and Education Reform is one typical outcome of them. In the future, I am schedule to extend these research from the perspective of ontology, epistemology, and axiology etc., and intend to make education reform to be more reasonable and deliberate.
This is a new field for me. I intend to research some issued of higher education from the perspective of philosophy. It is well known that the Chinese higher education have developed rapidly and meanwhile it results in many new problems which need to be analyzed deeply and systematically, such as general education and professional education, equity and equality, justice and elitism, internalization and localization, autonomy and democracy, disciplinary-centered or cross-disciplinary strategy etc. I hope philosophy of education could contribute to the research in the field of higher education.
